Civil Rights Attorneys Ben Crump And Antonio M. Romanucci Represent Waukegan Police Shooting Victim Tafara Williams

Posted on: October 24th, 2020 by Romanucci & Blandin

CHICAGO (October 23, 2020)—Romanucci & Blandin, LLC and Ben Crump Law announce they have been retained to represent 20-year-old Tafara Williams, who was shot and seriously injured by police in suburban Waukegan, Illinois Tuesday night. William’s 19-year-old boyfriend, Marcellis Stinnette, was also shot in that encounter and died of his injuries. Both Williams and Stinnette are Black. The police narrative is that the officer fired shots at a vehicle driven by Stinnette, which was reversing as the officer approached it and that the officer fired shots into the car in self-defense.

“Ms. Williams’ legal team will begin our own investigation into what happened during that incident, because we do not trust the police narrative in this case. We have seen over and over that the ‘official’ report when police kill Black people is far too often missing or misrepresenting details,” said Attorney Ben Crump of Ben Crump Law.  “We will share our findings with the public when we have uncovered the truth.”

“This legal team is fighting for justice across the nation, as our collective awareness grows to the unfair, excessive and deadly force used against Black members of our community,” said Antonio M. Romanucci, Founding Partner of Romanucci & Blandin, LLC. “No place is safe until police departments make serious reform to how they train officers, oversee officers’ conduct, hold them accountable for their actions and communicate in a transparent manner with our communities.”

Attorneys Ben Crump and Antonio M. Romanucci together represent the families of George Floyd, Daniel Prude, Byron Williams and other victims of excessive police force around the country.
