Civil Rights Litigation Attorney (5-10 years experience)

Romanucci & Blandin, based in Chicago, is a nationally recognized civil rights, personal injury, and medical malpractice law firm. The firm’s civil rights practice group litigates high-profile civil rights cases across the country involving police misconduct, wrongful conviction, violations of the rights of imprisoned people, and violations of the rights of disabled people.
The firm litigates in both federal and state court. Cases are frequently brought under Section 1983, Title IX, the ADA, and related state causes of action. They frequently involve Monell claims and the use of class action and mass tort litigation devices.
Responsibilities include working with a team in the practice area while managing a full docket of cases, including all aspects of litigation (investigating potential cases; filing lawsuits; motion practice, brief writing, and hearings; discovery; taking depositions; settlement negotiations; mediation and arbitrations; trial; post-trial motions). The attorney will work directly with clients, co-counsels and other attorneys in the firm, often in a team environment. The attorney will be responsible for working with the team to vet potential cases. The position will involve travel.
The candidate will have proven trial experience and/or significant civil rights litigation experience. They must be motivated and possess the ability to work well on a team, but they must also be energetic self-starters with initiative. The position requires outstanding research and writing skills, effective communication ability, a creative approach to litigation, and a commitment to social justice and advocating for impacted community members.
Additional Role/Responsibilities Include:
- Ensure you and your team are effective in the delivery of excellent client service
- Establish strategies for the team
- Accountability for oversight of junior attorneys and paralegals on the team regarding case management, deadlines and strategies
- Responsible for evaluating and providing team quarterly projections
- Business development
- Enhancing the firm’s reputation by demonstrating the highest ethical, legal, and professional standards and reaffirming these standards throughout the firm
- Participation in firm meetings and/or partner meetings
- Comply with all relevant policies and procedures of the firm and all applicable laws, rules, and regulations
Education:
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
- Admission to the Bar of the State of Illinois and Northern District of Illinois will be required
