CDLB People – Romanucci & Blandin secures an $8 million settlement in a lawsuit involving a medical malpractice injury
Romanucci & Blandin LLC secured an $8 million settlement in a lawsuit involving a medical malpractice injury to a young girl in the Chicago area beginning in 2010, according to a firm announcement.
A deal was reached following mediation before former Cook County judge William E. Gomolinski with ADR Systems.
The plaintiff, who is now 14 years old, was born with a mild form of Hirschsprung’s disease. Following a surgery shortly after birth to cure the disease, the child was able to function fairly normally until she was treated by the defendant physician in 2010, according to the announcement. The defendant allegedly performed an unindicated, experimental surgery using a transanal approach.
The defense contended the surgery was within the standard of care. They also contended the minor plaintiff could have another similar procedure in the future to remedy the situation, the news release states.
The plaintiff was represented by Romanucci & Blandin Founding Partner Stephan D. Blandin, Partner Joseph E. Kolar and team.
