After teen's in-custody death in Dalton, Whitfield County grand jury indicts 5 juvenile justice workers
DALTON, Ga. — A Whitfield County Grand jury has indicted 5 workers at the Dalton Youth Detention Center, including the director, in connection with the in-custody death of a 16-year-old girl from Ellijay last year.
In a release, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) says all 5 face various counts of first- and second-degree cruelty to children.
We later obtained the indictment, which says all 5 of those charged are accused of "depriving said child of the necessary medical care she needed while in the lawful custody of said defendants by not contacting emergency medical authorities in a timely manner."
