DOJ reaches agreement with sheriff's department, dispatch over investigation
Under an agreement reached with the U.S. Department of Justice, the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office will "review and update policies, rules and procedures" with the State's Attorney's Office.
The agreement, announced by the DOJ on Thursday, resolves an investigation launched in November of race and disability discrimination in the provision of policing and dispatch services.
That investigation was based on complaints and reports about the July 6 fatal shooting of Sonya Massey, a Black woman who had called 911 about a potential prowler.
