Romanucci & Blandin, LLC, a national trial litigation firm is pleased to announce that Attorney David A. Neiman has been named lead counsel in the Lake County, Illinois lawsuits related to a chemical spill in Beach Park, Illinois in April of 2019. Lake County Judge Mitchell Hoffman appointed Neiman to the role on December 15, 2020. As lead counsel, Neiman will coordinate the activities of the various law firms representing victims of the spill and the Plaintiffs’ Executive Council.
The hazardous chemical spill occurred in Beach Park, Illinois in the early morning hours of April 25, 2019, when a farmer operating a farm tractor pulling a pair of two-ton tanks containing anhydrous ammonia allowed the chemical to leak out onto an intersection in Beach Park from a valve hooked to the tanks. A cloud of toxic gas took over the surrounding area making it extremely difficult for people to see and breathe. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, anhydrous ammonia is a colorless gas that can cause breathing difficulties, burns, blisters and is fatal if breathed in high concentrations. Dozens of residents, passers-by, and first responders were sickened by the chemicals and have filed lawsuits related to the event.
“It is an honor and a responsibility to be named lead counsel, and in that role, I will continue to advocate for every plaintiff who was injured in the Beach Park hazardous material spill and work to secure the justice they deserve,” said attorney David A. Neiman of Romanucci & Blandin, LLC. “We will continue to investigate and work diligently to keep the pressure on those responsible to make sure they are held accountable for this preventable, careless event.”
