Romanucci & Blandin and Leatherman & Witzler file civil lawsuit on behalf of victim of sexual abuse at a laboratory
Complaint claims plaintiff from Africa experienced sexual abuse by a worker during an immigration exam, and employer had prior complaints about the worker
CHICAGO (July 16, 2023) – Romanucci & Blandin, LLC and Leatherman & Witzler announce the filing of a lawsuit on behalf of Unyime Williams, alleging sexual assault against Trust Medical Services, Inc., Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings (Lab Corp), and employee Frank Serebour Amoh. The complaint details that Lab Corp hired and staffed Amoh, while Trust Medical Services, Inc., located in Columbus, Ohio, fostered an environment devoid of proper safety policies and procedures, allowing Amoh to sexually assault Ms. Williams under the guise of providing medical care. The complaint further details that the defendants had notice and had received at least two prior complaints about Amoh’s sexual abuse of female patients, yet did nothing to protect future patients, including Ms. Williams, from abuse.
The lawsuit, filed June 16, 2023, in Franklin County, Ohio, details the alleged negligent actions of Trust Medical and Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings, that allowed for Amoh to sexually assault patients, including Ms. Williams. At the time she experienced abuse, Ms. Wiliams was completing medical checks as part of the necessary process to receive her I-9 International Employment Eligibility forms in the United States (“green card”). The lawsuit explains that the defendant organizations were frequented often by women completing this same process, who were new to the country and vulnerable.

“This lawsuit seeks to hold accountable not only the individual who sexually abused our client, but also Trust Medical and Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings. I am afraid there may be other women who have been abused in the same way I was. Many women from Africa, like me, use this facility and African culture often tells girls to be quiet about these types of things, but I can not be silent. I am fighting for accountability for what happened to me, but also to keep this from happening to anyone else again in the future,” said plaintiff Unyime Williams.
