Civil Rights attorneys Antonio Romanucci of Romanucci & Blandin and Ben Crump and Ben Crump law release a statement in response to a controversial statement by White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito
Chicago White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito's statement must be condemned by the White Sox organization and Major League Baseball. Giolito writes: “We need to step on throats, we need to try to kill other teams until the very end.” The Black community is saddened by the insensitivity of this comment during a time when our country is still healing from the racial injustice of the killing of George Floyd, where a police officer kneeled on his neck until it took his life. We applaud our local teams for their desire to win. Chicago wants winners. However, the example we give our children and community of wanting to kill our opponents by stepping on their throats is wrong and offends members of the Black community who are often marginalized by injustice.
