Statement by Civil Rights Attorneys Ben Crump, Antonio Romanucci and Jeff Storms on the March 31, 2023 agreement on police reform in Minneapolis
“The monumental Minneapolis police reform agreement reached today is the culmination of years of heartbreak and advocacy by those impacted by the poor policies and practices of the Minneapolis Police Department, including George Floyd, Amir Locke and many others. The insightful and painful Minnesota Human Rights report released last year gave clear and troubling insight into the need for comprehensive reform, and we as civil rights attorneys who have fought in Minneapolis for justice, accountability and change are pleased by both the recognition of deeply entrenched policing problems, as well as clear steps on the path to constitutional policing in Minneapolis. It is our fervent hope that the reform agreement will improve the quality of policing, enhance the training and well-being of officers and most importantly increase trust of law enforcement in the community, particularly among those who have for so long have been marginalized and mistreated.”
