"The closing of the special management unit at Illinois' Thomson federal penitentiary is the right and essential next step to improving the constitutional, civil and human rights afforded to each person within that facility.  Our clients, Susan and Jeff Phillips, are grateful to Senator Richard Durbin, Senator Tammy Duckworth and others for calling on the Department of Justice to investigate the conditions at Thomson after the Phillips' son Matt - a Jewish man - was killed following complaints he was placed in proximity to anti-Semitic inmates.  We call on continued investigation and reform of the federal prison system to ensure humane treatment of all."
