Statement from Amir Locke legal team on Minnesota legislature passing Judicial and Public Safety Bill SF2909
Statement on behalf of Attorneys Ben Crump, Antonio M. Romanucci, Jeff Storms and the legal team of Amir Locke:
“The family of Amir Locke, and the legal team representing them, applauds the Minnesota state legislature for passing Judicial and Public Safety Bill SF2909. The bill now heads to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and the family urges him to sign it into law. Among other valuable public safety initiatives, the bill significantly restricts the use of no-knock warrants, leaving them only as a last resort for law enforcement. Amir Locke died during the service of a no-knock warrant in Minneapolis last year. He was not named in the warrant nor was he a suspect any crime. Amir's father, Andre Locke Sr., testified multiple times before state lawmakers on this bill, and Amir's mother, Karen Wells, has also been an outspoken advocate in Minnesota and other states for the elimination of no-knock warrants. The legal team continues to be inspired by the family's fierce advocacy for change so that no other family ever experiences their loss because of a no-knock warrant.”
