Romanucci & Blandin secures $2.675 Million settlement for a student-athlete who suffered traumatic brain injuries due to failure to warn of the defective nature of a sports product
CHICAGO (March 17, 2023) – Romanucci & Blandin, LLC announces the $2.675 million settlement for a student-athlete who suffered traumatic brain injuries due to the failure to warn of the defective nature of a sports product. The student, a high school volleyball player, was setting up a volleyball net during practice when the net rope snapped and the pole shook striking her head. The occurrence caused a fractured mastoid and tinnitus requiring extensive medical treatment. The student-athlete missed several weeks of school because of the injuries and incurred $100,000 in medical bills. The volleyball net manufacturer failed to warn students to stand to the side of the pole when setting it up, knowing that if the net rope snapped, deflection could cause significant injuries.
The case was resolved in front of Judge Patricia O’Brien on the eve of trial by Romanucci & Blandin.
