R&B Cases & Concepts: Police Conduct

In this episode of “Cases and Concepts”, Romanucci & Blandin Founding Partner Antonio Romanucci provides context on the federal standard of “reasonableness” for police officers, as defined by the United States Supreme Court. For context, he details the case of our client, DeCynthia Clements, and the deadly use of force by police officers in that tragic situation.

DeCynthina’s case provides an example of how proper de-escalation tactics could have been greatly used and saved her life. Instead, police officers failed to use de-escalation tactics in March of 2018 when they pulled her over in suburban Elgin.

Unfortunately, we see and hear about similar cases across the country regularly. The only positive here is that these tragedies are now receiving more attention than ever by the media and public. It is our hope that these tragedies are not in vain and lead to meaningful conversations and progress in policing policies and practices in the months and years to come.
