R&B Cases & Concepts: The Danger and Ethics of Police Chases.

In this episode of “Cases and Concepts”, Romanucci & Blandin founding partner Antonio Romanucci discusses the danger and ethics of police chases and the tragedy experienced by our clients, the Carreon family. While Hollywood has worked hard to “glamorize” police chases on TV and in films, making them seem fun, energizing and exciting, we know that the opposite is true. Police chases can have catastrophic consequences and even be deadly. In fact, the number of police chase fatalities has been up year over year since 2015. In April 2019, the Carreon family was awarded $21.3 million after a jury found that the City of Chicago and Chicago Police Department officers showed an utter indifference to or conscious disregard for their own safety and the safety of others, particularly the Carreon family, when the officers initiated and engaged in a police pursuit of a vehicle which they believed to be stolen back in 2015. This disregard led to the loss of a mother of five and lifelong injuries for her family members.
